김하성(Ha-Seong Kim)

샌디에이고 파드리스 소속 내야수. KBO 리그에서는 키움 히어로즈 소속으로 뛰면서 이종범, 강정호에 이어 유격수로서 30홈런을 기록한 사례로 남았으며, 포스팅 시스템을 통해 메이저 리그로 진출한 5번째 선수이자 3번째 야수이다.

An infielder for the San Diego Padres. In the KBO League, he remained a case of 30 home runs as a shortstop after Lee Jong-beom and Kang Jung-ho while playing for the Kiwoom Heroes, and is the fifth player and third fielder to advance to the Major League through the posting system.

함께 입단한 신인 임병욱, 임동휘, 이용하와 함께 2013 마무리캠프를 소화함으로써 프로에 첫발을 디뎠다. 적어도 퓨처스리그에서는 함께 입단한 신인들과 함께 많은 기회를 부여받을 것으로 예상됐다. 최만호 주루코치의 일대일 트레이닝을 받았고, 홍원기 넥센 히어로즈 1군 수비코치는 갓 고교를 졸업한 선수인데도 불구하고 기본기가 매우 탄탄하며 센스도 좋고 배운 것을 잘 흡수하는 타입이라며 칭찬하기도 했다. 이순철 해설위원은 김하성이 경기하는걸 보고 "대졸선수인 줄 알았는데 고졸선수라더라. 매우 놀랐다. 고졸 선수가 저렇게 플레이하는 건 본 적이 없다. 몇 십 년에 한번 나올까말까 한 센스 있는 내야수"라며 극찬하였다.

He took his first professional step by playing the 2013 finishing camp with rookies Lim Byung-wook, Lim Dong-hwi, and Lee Yong-ha, who joined together. At least in the Futures League, he was expected to be given many opportunities with rookies who joined together. He received one-on-one training from base coach Choi Man-ho, and Nexen Heroes' first-team defensive coach Hong Won-ki praised him for his solid basic skills, good sense, and absorbing what he learned, even though he just graduated from high school. Commentator Lee Soon-chul saw Kim Ha-sung play and said, "I thought he was a college graduate, but he said he was a high school graduate. I was very surprised. I've never seen a high school graduate play like that. He praised him, saying, "I'm a sensible infielder who doesn't know how many decades it will come out."

 

타고난 손목 힘과 풀스윙을 통해 KBO 리그 기준 상위권의 파워를 자랑한다. 컨택 능력은 KBO에서 뛰어난 편은 아니지만 풀스윙을 하는 타자 치곤 선구안은 꽤 좋은 편이다. 유격수라는 수비부담이 큰 포지션에 비교적 마른 체격에도 불구하고 벌크업 뒤에 한 시즌에 홈런 20개 정도를 기대할 수 있을 정도로 갭 파워가 좋은 편이다. 홈런 뿐만 아니라 한 시즌에 30개 내외의 2루타를 칠 정도로 장타 자체가 많이 나온다. 유격수 포지션 뿐 아니라 같은 또래 야수들 중에서 장타력은 리그 최고 수준. 당장 대학생 나이, 즉 23세 이전에 한시즌 20홈런 이상을 친 타자들은 KBO 역사상 10여 명에 불과하다.  풀타임 출전한 2015 시즌부터는 시즌 당 평균 21.8홈런을 기록했다.

Through his natural wrist strength and full swing, he boasts the power of the top ranks in the KBO league. His contact skills are not excellent in the KBO, but his batting eye is quite good for a full swing hitter. Despite his relatively thin physique in a position with a high defensive burden as a shortstop, he has good gap power enough to expect about 20 home runs in a season after a bulk-up. In addition to home runs, there are so many long hits that they hit about 30 doubles in a season. Not only the shortstop position, but also the league's best slugging power among fielders of the same league. There are only about 10 batters in KBO history who hit more than 20 home runs in a season before the age of a college student, that is, 23.  Since the 2015 season, when he played full-time, he has averaged 21.8 home runs per season.

MLB

MLB 진출 첫 해에는 KBO 리그보다 빠른 리그 평균 구속에 적응하지 못하면서 KBO 리그 시절의 명성에 미치지 못하는 나쁜 타격 성적을 냈다. 2021 시즌 김하성의 슬래시라인은 .202/.270/.352에, 세부 지표를 살펴봐도 영 좋지 않은 수준이었다. 물론 후술하겠지만 수비력은 이때부터 준 정상급이었지만, 닉 아메드마냥 수비로 쌓아올린 걸 타격에서 상당히 깎아먹었을 정도로 타격이 나빴기에 백업 유틸리티 자원에 그치지 않을까 하는 걱정이 많았었을 정도였다.

2년차에 타격의 발전을 이끌어낸 건 KBO 리그에서도 인정받은 선구안 덕으로 메이저리그에서도 평균 이상의 선구안을 가졌다는 평가를 받는다. 첫 시즌에는 90마일 중후반의 공에 적응하지 못하고 1구 스트라이크를 많이 당하거나 뜬공머신이 되긴 했지만, 적어도 자신의 타석에서 투수의 투구를 최대한 늘리려고 하는 인내심에 배트를 내지 않는 때에는 빠른 공을 눈에 익힘으로써 빅리그 투수들의 공에 적응해나갈 수 있었다.

In his first year in MLB, he failed to adapt to the league's average speed faster than the KBO league, and he had a bad batting performance that fell short of his KBO league reputation. In the 2021 season, Kim Ha-sung's slash line was .202/.270/.352, which was not good even if we looked at the detailed indicators. Of course, as it will be described later, the defense has been at the top since then, but like Nick Ahmed, the blow was so bad that he cut down on his defense that he was worried that it would end up as a backup utility resource.

Thanks to the pioneering eye recognized in the KBO League, it is evaluated that it has a better-than-average pioneer eye in the Major League Baseball has led to the development of batting in the second year. In the first season, he was unable to adapt to the mid- to late 90 miles of the ball and became a fly ball machine with many first-ball strikes, but he was able to adapt to the big league pitchers' balls, at least when he didn't bat out of patience to maximize the pitcher's pitching.
